Overreaction Monday (10/23/23)

Are your team’s Super Bowl aspirations fading quicker than a prison tat? Is your fantasy team in shambles? Is your bank account draining faster than Penn State fans’ confidence in James Franklin because Iowa simply refuses to score points? Yeah, me too.

Not an Overreaction — The NFL is legitimately fixing games

I mean where do we start? The officiating has been ATROCIOUS this season to this point. I mean how many games have been decided by zebras!? With all the sports betting happening nowadays, some legit investigating needs to be done!

Overreaction — Tyson Bagent is better than Justin Fields

Fields is better… but it isn’t as far apart as one may think it is. Bagent looked very good in the pre-season and then for the most part vs. the Vikings in week 6 and in his first career start vs. the Raiders this past Sunday. I wish they’d open up the playbook and start letting the young kid ball. Part of me thinks that if they do that, he will ball out and that solidifies Fields’ future and they’re scared of being wrong.

Not an Overreaction — Caleb Williams will be bust

Alright now, y’all I’m convinced he’s gonna be ass in the NFL. This is literally Kyler Murray 2.0 except he’s not a midget. He’s a diva, and yea he’s great when the play gets out of structure, but what has he done IN STRUCTURE? You know, the key to winning games in the NFL. If he’s struggling with a Utah and Notre Dame defense, what’s gonna happen when he’s playing the best defenses in the NFL? Drake Maye >>>

Overreaction — Rankings don’t matter til December

I saw a tweet over the weekend that said the CFP rankings do not matter until essentially the conference championship. I think that’s a horrible take because the reason those rankings matter is because of the results of games that happen with the rankings throughout the season. The preseason through like week 3, yeah I’ll give you that, but by now you know where teams stand.

Not an Overreaction — Iowa will not fire Brian Ferentz no matter what

I mean the fact that they haven’t fired him yet should be all that you need to know about this. Iowa is very much likely going to win the B1G West and 10+ games, all while averaging less than 16 points per game. It’s hilarious actually. Iowa has won a BIG TEN CONFERENCE GAME while not running an offensive play in their opponents territory. Iowa’s offense goes 3-and-out in OVER 60% of their possessions… it is remarkable. Before the season they said that Ferentz would need to score 325 points this season (25 PPG in 13 games) to keep his job. At this rate Iowa’s offense would need to average 36 ppg over the last 5+ games to hit this mark. They have score 36+ just once over the past three seasons combined and have not done it against a B1G opponent. May the odds ever be in their favor!
