NFL Power Rankings – Week 3

Week 3 is officially done and we have three remaining undefeated teams, plus a new #1! Let me know in the comments down below where I went wrong and where I went right. Stay tuned for next week’s update!

  1. Miami Dolphins (3-0) +3

The boys in Miami are hotter than they’ve ever been before. Yes, that includes their undefeated 1972 season. Will they repeat? Likely no, however, feel free to jump on the bandwagon after their SEVENTY-point performance Sunday. Oh, and that offense is adding speed demon Jaylen Waddle back to the roster as well.

  1. San Francisco 49ers (3-0) -1

The Niners have continued their regular season win streak (13) since acquiring Christian McCaffrey and promoting Brock Purdy to starter. After man-handling the Giants on Thursday Night Football, SF is showing how their offense is truly two-dimensional. The first two weeks were all about McCaffrey, but in Week 3 it was Purdy and Deebo Samuel who did the most damage.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (3-0) —

Philly took care of the then 2-0 Buccaneers Monday night in the way they do best: running the football. D’Andre Swift went nuts, averaging 8 yards per carry for a total of 130 yards. The only thing seeming to hold Philly back from being a top two team right now is its passing offense. Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions and has yet to find A.J. Brown for a touchdown this season. Once the competition increases, we’ll have to see how they react.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) +3

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes finally looked like their normal selves this weekend. That or the magic of the Swifties helped propel KC to a 41-10 win against Chicago. Travis Kelce is winning on and off the field. Finishing with 69 yards (nice) and a date with Taylor Swift after the game, it’s safe to say Kelce was the winner Sunday night.

  1. Buffalo Bills (2-1) +1

After a disappointing loss in Week 1, Buffalo has done what everybody expected them to do and that’s win games in a shootout fashion. James Cook continued his dominance this week by taking some of the pressure off Josh Allen, who has thrown the third most interceptions thus far. If Buffalo can get solid running performances week in and week out, they will definitely be atop the race for the #1 seed.

  1. Dallas Cowboys (2-1) -4

Two words: trap game. Dallas did what they do best. Every year you can count on the Cowboys losing at least one game to a team much less skilled than them. Whether they completely underestimated Arizona and expected to get an easy win, or if that Trevon Diggs injury hurt more than we expected. With a top defense, it should be noted Dallas has a severe red-zone offense issue. Field goals won’t win you games.

  1. Detroit Lions (2-1) +2

The Lions are a tricky team to grade because I can’t really tell how good they are. Obviously beating the reigning Super Bowl champs has to count for something, but Jared Goff has shown he has the ability to win. Goff currently has the 4th best QBR among eligible quarterbacks. Aidan Hutchinson also showed why he shouldn’t be ignored after finishing with 2 sacks.

  1. Cleveland Browns (2-1) +3

Cleveland may have figured out their offensive issues after a loss to Pittsburgh in Week 2. I’m still not sold on Deshaun Watson as a starting QB in 2023, but if he can get the ball to Amari Cooper consistently, they can be a really good team. The Browns’ defense is currently playing out of their minds as well led by Myles Garrett with a 3.5-sack performance this past weekend.

  1. Baltimore Ravens (2-1) -4

The Ravens simply did not look good this weekend. Lamar Jackson was their leading rusher and was sacked four times. They’re asking for an injury if they can’t replicate their rushing success with somebody outside the QB position. Losing to a team with Gardner Minshew as the starting QB just can’t happen. Baltimore has it tough with Cleveland and Pittsburgh in their next two contests.

  1. Cincinnati Bengals (1-2) +2

Cincy is another really difficult team to grade because we know what they’re capable of, but they’ve simply just drastically underperformed so far this season. Burrow is still dealing with that calf injury so maybe that is to blame, but he neglected to throw a touchdown again on Monday night. They’re hoping to get their offense rolling the next two weeks with Tennessee and Arizona on the schedule.
