Holy Toledo: Could the Rockets Be the New G5 Powerhouse?

The Toledo Rockets officially signed the highest-rated recruiting class in MAC history yesterday, breaking the previously set records of Toledo’s 2018 and 2020 recruiting classes.

Four-star WR Zy’marion Lang headlines the historic class, as the Florida native flipped his commitment from South Carolina to Toledo on Wednesday. Other notable signees include three-star CB Micah Cherry and three-star OT Cole Rhett.

This is more than great news for Rockets fans, as the program continues to trend in the right direction following an 11-2 season and head coach Jason Candle’s contract extension running through at least 2026.

With Willie Fritz fleeing Tulane, Curt Cignetti headed to Indiana, and SMU joining the ACC, the NY6 Group of Five race is wide open and Toledo is one of the front runners. Non-conference P5 opponents Mississippi State (2024) and Kentucky (2025) are scheduled over the next two seasons, setting up a golden opportunity for the Rockets to bulk up their resume and make a potential playoff push as the #12 seed if they go undefeated or even 12-1.

Just got to beat Miami (OH) and win the conference first. An overall W for the Rockets and the MAC.
