Gameday Journal Power Five Players of the Week

Commish: Carson Beck – QB, Georgia

It feels like the biggest question mark in regard to the strength of this Georgia team is whether or not they have a legit quarterback that can take them over the top. Beck answered the call in what most would consider Georgia’s first real test against #25 Kentucky. Beck was brilliant, throwing for 389 yards and four touchdowns. If he can play consistently at a high level, a three-peat for the Bulldogs is on the horizon.

Dom: Dillon Gabriel – QB, Oklahoma

Gabriel played a great game to lead the Sooners to an upset win against Texas in the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, capped off by a go-ahead touchdown pass to Nic Anderson with :16 remaining. He was a true dual threat quarterback all day long, throwing for 285 and one score, while adding 114 yards and an additional score on the ground. In arguably the biggest win of the weekend, Gabriel put the Sooners right in the middle of the College Football Playoff discussion.

Clay: Brock Bowers – TE, Georgia

Yes, yes, I’m going with Bowers who shined yet again for the Bulldogs. But it’s warranted. Seven grabs for 136 and a touchdown? A 49-yard reception? Easy choice this week. Dude just has such an elite prowess and showcased it again this past weekend against a solid ranked opponent.

Snade: Running Back Room – Kansas

The Jayhawks got embarrassed by Texas last week, but against a hungry UCF team as underdogs (as shocking as that seemed after seeing the final score) Rock Chalk ran for 389 yards on 45 carries and five TD. And the individual stats were all evenly distributed which is the crazy part. Of the three that got more than one carry, they ALL totaled for at least 90 yards and AT LEAST seven YPC. One of the best rushing performances from a non-academy team I have ever seen!

KKarp: Jermaine Burton – WR, Alabama

A big concern that’s been looming around this Bama squad is a lack of elite play at the WR position. That’s until Burton took the field on Saturday afternoon. QB Jalen Milroe threw for 321 yards with 197 of them falling into the hands of Burton, who also had nine catches and two TD, as Alabama picked up a critical 26-20 road win at Texas A&M to keep its SEC title hopes in reach.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Marvin Harrison Jr. – WR, Ohio State
  • Trey Benson – RB, Florida State
  • Jawhar Jordan – RB, Louisville
  • Jayden Daniels – QB, LSU
  • Jacob Cowing – WR, Arizona
  • Drake Maye -QB, UNC
  • Josh Proctor – S, Ohio State
