by I skipped a betting preview blog last week, but we’re slowly beginning to figure things out. Here are my four favorite plays on the card for Week 6 in college football.
Georgia Tech at #17 Miami (FL) -19.5
On paper, it looks like a classic look ahead spot for the Canes as they head to UNC next week. However, I think Mario Cristobal will have these guys mentally prepared enough to dominate all night. Even if they come out a little flat, Georgia Tech can’t run the ball or play any offense and this is the best we’ve seen Miami play in the trenches in quite a while. I get that 19.5 points is a lot, but Miami is just that much better. I’m on the under (57.5) in this one as well.
#20 Kentucky at #1 Georgia -14.5
At some point we’re going to see the Bulldogs run away with a game and put 60 solid minutes together. I think we see that this weekend.
A lot of people are going to overthink Georgia’s performance against Auburn last Saturday and the fact that the Bulldogs haven’t covered yet. The public is all on Kentucky, but this is the sort of game where Vegas is begging you to take UK with the points. Kentucky is one-dimensional on offense with an unproven passing game, plus they have averaged just 9.3 PPG in their last six trips to Samford Stadium.
Georgia will thrive at home and get a big bounce back victory.
#12 Oklahoma vs. #3 Texas -6.5
I wrote a blog about this one earlier today. The Longhorns will win by controlling the line of scrimmage and putting pressure on Dillon Gabriel. Texas makes it two straight and covers in Dallas.
#13 Washington State at UCLA -3 (Lock)
I respect Cam Ward and this Wazu team, but the Bruins are going to win this game on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars are the square pick because they’re the unbeaten team who’s ranked and not favored. That’s straight eye candy for the average bettor. Plus, people are going to pinpoint how UCLA struggled offensively in its loss to Utah in Week 4, even though it was freshman Dante Moore’s first legit road start that happened to be against a Top 15 defense in a hostile environment. UCLA is great defensively with Laiatu Latu and company leading the nation in opponent yards per play and Wazu hasn’t been tested on the road yet this season. I love Chip Kelly and the boys to get it done at the Coliseum.
